Novell Screws Linux, Ballmer spews FUD

Our favorite monkey dancing vitriolic FUD spewing idiot, Steve Ballmer, finally speaks about the specifics of the MS+Novell deal.

Ballmer:

“Novell pays us some money for the right to tell customers that anybody who uses SUSE Linux is appropriately covered,” Ballmer said. This “is important to us, because [otherwise] we believe every Linux customer basically has an undisclosed balance-sheet liability.”

Microsoft is giving Novell $440 million, and Novell is giving back $40 million to pay for patents that it thinks Linux is infringing upon.

Thanks Novell! You sold out the whole Linux community, who’s work you have been busy trying to use to resuscitate your dying business. No one who has been using Linux for more than one year was surprised by your actions, but now we have caught you with your hand in the cookie jar. And we have the proof we need to tell people why they should not use SuSE Linux.

At least I do not have to rebuild any of my servers or workstations, none of them run SUSE, if they did, I would have already formatted and re-installed with a better distro a long time ago.

If you use Linux, please boycott SUSE. If you currently use SUSE, please try a free alternative such as CentOS, Ubuntu, Fedora. My personal combo is CentOS for severs, Ubuntu for Desktops.

Heat Vision and Jack

Here is a pilot for a very funny TV show that FOX deciceded to pass on. Its called Heat Vision and Jack. Starring Jack Black as Jack the Astronaut that becomes the worlds smartest man and is hunted down relentlessly by NASA. Owen Wilson stars as the voice of Jacks motorcycle named Heat Vision. The pilot was directed by Ben Stiller.

Wow, we now have force feilds, all that is left is a Holodeck, and we are all set. We’re not ready for Warp Drive yet. Below is the origional post as seen on digg.

Developed by Israeli company Rafael, it creates a sort of protective bubble defending ground vehicles against RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) and tank rounds. Video in swf form.

The Death Star Home Theatre

A truely awesome setup. A company called Dillon Works! has created a Death Star themed Home Theatre for one of their clients. Complete with a Han Solo frozen in Carbonite at the entrance to the media library.

Very impressive to say the least.

New York plans skyscraper escape pods

This is crazy, an Israeli inventor has come up with a skyscraper escape pod. Jonathan “Yoni” Shimshoni and a team of aspiring inventors in Israel watched a television documentary about victims trapped on the upper floors of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

The Office of emergency management in New York City has said no to the plan so far because of other safety related issues.

Cory over at boingboing.net got an interesting email from somebody claiming to be a lawyer. Very strange…. You have to wonder if the people responsible for the camera theft are going to pop out of the Internet woodwork somewhere and totally open themselves up to all sorts of vigilante justice.

Bad Samaritan Keeps Lost Camera; only sends CDs with Lost Photos

A woman’s trip to Hawaii goes sour when she loses her Digital Camera with over 500 photos on her Memory Card. Luckily, somebody finds the camera, reports it to a park ranger, and even leaves their contact info. So when this lady calls them, they tell her how much their kid likes the camera, but they will send her the memory card with her pictures. But they don’t even do that!!! Wow cheap, rude, criminal, and they live somewhere in Canada. Now if only this lady would post the address of these low life scum so things could get more interesting…

A Canadian Tire store in New Westminster had this unique sign up today:

I think it said: “Have you checked your _____ lately. Which could be Clutch, Brakes, Oil, Anti-Freeze, Tires, etc.

Congratulations to the pranksters who did this one, the store had been open for an hour and a half when I went past it, so nobody has likely noticed and reported it yet today. If you want to see the sign in person, you can find it in New West, at the Canadian Tire store on 8th, near McBride Blvd.
