Installing Hardwood Flooring on Stairs

hardwood-stairs002

After finally getting my hardwood stairs completed, I felt it was time to post my notes so that others do not have to go through all the greif that I did to get my stairs completed. Posting my completed stair pictures to the Toolmonger flickr pool resulted in many emails requesting help on accomplishing the same thing. Unfortunately, there is no single resource for installing Hardwood stairs on the Internet, so here goes…

Ubuntu Server Edition

February 24th, 2007

ubuntu-300.pngSince I’ve switched all my Linux desktops to Ubuntu, (home, work, and laptop) I become more and more impressed with it everyday. So when I finally got tired of trying to fix the out of date Gentoo install on my Colo server, I decided to bite the bullet and switch it to Ubuntu 6.10 Server Edition. My Colo server is the server that currently hosts this website.

I decided to go with Ubuntu server edition for my Colocated server for many reasons, primarily of which was ease of maintence. I’ve had very little time as of late to devote to time consuming distrobutions such as Gentoo, it was fun, but it just took up too much of my time, and when it got too far out of date, it was just too much work to recover.

BlackBerry push email with procmail and BIS

July 2nd, 2006

bb6.jpgHere is a quick tip on how to get “poor mans” push email with your BlackBerry using BlackBerry Internet Service. This of course assumes that you are on an email system that runs procmail, and you have access to update your .procmailrc file in your home directory. If you run MS Exchange, then you are better off using BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server), where you will get more features.

On the set at Lions Gate Studios

June 25th, 2006

Recently I had the opportunity to help out with a small production that was shooting at Lion’s Gate Studio’s for the day. Lion’s Gate or North Shore Studio’s as the are now known is a pretty popular place to shoot movies and TV shows in the Vancouver area. You have very likely seen at least one movie and TV show that has been shot there.

IP Stuff: Find out about your Internet Connection

June 16th, 2006

I’d like to take a momment for a shameless plug :) I have finished building the beta of my new tool, IP Stuff. IP Stuff will tell you your IP address, your browser string, and the whois information for the IP address you are on.

Why is this useful you ask. Well you may need to know your IP address to troubleshoot a problem with email etc, and you may be behind a NAT router, in which case your computer will not have a real routable IP address on the Inernet. IP Stuff will show you what the Internet “see’s” when you connect to a webpage.

Have you ever been using somebody else’s wireless connection and wondered, “What ISP do they use” IP Stuff can help

IP Stuff is also useful to find out your IP address if you are using a wireless hotspot, or you are surfing from your phone.

Give it a shot and let me know what you think.
