Firmware Version 149 for the Express Vu 9200

March 7th, 2007

ExpressVu LogoThere is some big news for the Express Vu 9200, firmware version 149 was released today, and there appear to be some major changes.an

I’m still trying to “discover” all of the many changes, and I will post the updates as I discover them.

Here is a list that can get you started, if you notice anything new, please feel free to post below.

In summary, the unit feels a lot faster,  and more reliable. I also like the diagnostic changes, and the updates to the guide.

  • Daylight Savings time fix (remember DST comes three weeks early starting this year).
  • Picture in Picture (PIP) has been revamped to include “side by side” mode.
  • The system information screen has been totally revamped, menu, 6-1-3
  • The guide now shows more information, season, show number, and original air date. The same info is also shown on the PVR screen.
  • The ability to rename events on the PVR.
  • General bug fixes, HDMI audio sync, HD 30 second skip.

Also noticed that my hard drive is now reported as 0×6102. Before v192, it was reported as 0×6002.

Interesting…. mine still shows as 0×6132.

Also notice that it corrects CallerID for those with Visual Call Waiting (never worked correctly before unless you ONLY had call waiting)

Also when the receiver shuts down to ‘screen saver’ display, it shows the number of the connected TV in a little logo, so you know which tuner you are connected to I guess.

Also notice that the weather network application that lets you choose your closest town for local forecasts now FINALLY works!

PS: for hard core people, the linux source code for the Dish Network receiver which is essentially the same unit is posted under the GPL license requirements at http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/products/receivers/dvr/SourceCode/

Maybe that would allow someone to finally unlock the USB port to add more capacity and perhaps a way to take content directly off the unit (like the PocketDISH system in the US)

I have a problem with my receiver 9200 since march 2007 (more or less). I don’t know if my problem is related or not to the new firmware upgrade. When I’m watching a recorded show some times the video stop for a second then continues. Other times when I’m watching live show and I pause for 2 or 3 minutes, after resuming (watching 3 minutes back from live time), the video jump to live without reason :(
Do anyone have the same problems?
Do anyone know if those problems and firmware update are related?

    Hi Salvador -

I have not seen the issues that you mention, but the timing is very close to the v149 update.

I also recall that the update prior to 149 was very buggy. The problem with the Bell receivers is that, even though they have downloaded the new firmware, they need to be power cycled to activate it. Have you tried power-cycling your 9200 since you started having issues?

Let us know how it goes.

    - Chris

Hi Chris… thanks for your answer. I did not power cycled the receiver but some weeks ago I got a 2 hours power failure at home. So, I think the firmware is active and running :(

I have a Rotel RX950AX audio amplifier. I tried to program the Bell remote to control this amplifier in the AUX mode, but Rotel is not listed in the owner’s book. I tried the scan mode. No results. : finds nothing…

Any ideas around ?? I search the infrared code…
