Bell ExpressVu 9200 firmware update (v145)

November 15th, 2006

ExpressVu LogoBell ExpressVu has updated the firmware for the 9200 / 9220 HD PVR to version 145. This is mainly a bug fix release and there are no reports of new features that have been added yet.

So far, since I received the update a day ago, performance seems to have improved quite a bit. The menu’s appear to load faster, and the fast forward bug also appears to have been fixed.

If you were having problems with your 9220 / 9200 HD PVR, then check to see if you have version 145 installed. You can check this by doing the following:

  1. press menu
  2. press 6 (system setup)
  3. press 1 (installation)
  4. press 3 (system info)

Under Software Version, you should see V145MBJD-N

For the update to take affect, you will have to pull the power from the unit, wait about thirty seconds, and then plug the PVR back in. (firmware updates need a hard reboot).

Hey – Thanks for keeping this up to date. Just curious though… I just checked my firmware and it says I have version V145MBRD-N.

Is this a newer still version of the firmware? The only difference is that the ‘J’ in the one you wrote aboout becomes a ‘R’ on the one I have. The higher letter must mean it’s newer, right?

Or am I running older firmware?

    Hi Guy -

It is possible that you could have different firmware. Bell may have rolled out a slightly different version for different hardware revisions.

Or I could have written down the wrong firmware version. I’m so accustomed to seeing MBJD-N following the version number. I will double check this when I get home tonight.

    Cheers, Chris

I just looked, and my version is indeed V145MBJD-N. So it looks like Guy has different firmware than I. Guy, when did you get your BEV 9200?

I bought by 9200 back in July – Also, I’m in Alberta, could that have something to do with it?

I’ve gone into diagnostic tools before and my hard drive is different from the one most people have in forums that I’ve read.

    Hi Guy -

If your drive is not a 0×6102 or 0×6132 then the firmware you have is likely specific to your drive, or hardware revision of your 9200.

Personally, I can’t imagine that well after a year from launching on ExpressVu, that Echostar (who builds the 9200 for Bell) would still be able to get the same hard drives as before.

Out of curiosity, what is the drive ID in your system?

    Thanks, Chris

I’m also in Alberta (near Edmonton) and have V145MBRD-N. The 9200 was installed yesterday, but I cannot access the HD info in the diag. menu as it’s “greyed out”. So far, I like the 9200 and other than getting used to the buttons on the remote it’s been easy.
I’d like to figure out how to get data off of the unit, but that’s a different story.

Thanks for the all of these pages, I’d guess it’s a bit of time to do all of this. Jim

    Hi Jim –

The hard drive diagnostics menu has never been activated. However, you can find out what Hard Drive ID you have by doing the following in the diagnostics menu:

    - Press Counters
    - Press Page Down on the remote once.
    - Item 10 Hard Drive Info will show a hex id. Mine is: 0×6132

    Enjoy your 9200.

    My hard drive is 0×6002

Hmm, I suspect the R version of the firmware is specific for the hard drive in your 9200. I wonder if Jim has the same hard drive ID as you.

In the front right on my 9200, tgere is a USB type connection. Will Bell update their hardware to let users record or send video signals through this USB connection. Is there information on this site or other site about this USB connection on the 9200.

    Hi Daniel -

Bell has not activated the USB port on the front of the 9200. I do not expect them to do this since they have not indicated any plans to realease the pocket dish, which is the intended use of the USB port on the 9200.

The pocket dish is a portable media player that can play back shows recorded off of the 9200 PVR.

    Cheers! – Chris

The Maxtor Quickview SATA 250gb hardrive in my 9200 is going – barely lasted three years – and I’m really having a difficult time finding a replacement. Is anyone aware of where one can find one in Canada?

    Thanks,

    Casper
