ExpressVu adds 4 new HD Channels, A&E HD

Update: Even better news, I was wrong. Contrary to my earlier report, Bell ExpressVu has actually added 4 new HD channels. I did not notice that Movie Central HD2 is now active at Channel at 842. All I can say is wow at this point. It looks like HDNet is close as well, keep watching for channel 814 to pop up.

My origional post is below the fold.

Good news everyone, Bell ExpressVu has just added 3 new HD channels, including A&E HD (Channel 813), who is stating that 65% of its prime time lineup is available in “true” High Definition. A&E HD is also available to Rogers HD customers on Channel 533. And if you are bored tomorrow, A&E is going to be running a CSI Miami marathon on September 4th. A&E is also planning to show their non HD shows in proper widescreen format (ie: no black bars for us 16:9 tv owners).

The other two new ExpressVu channels are: Equator HD (Channel 812), and Rush HD (Channel 811). Rush appears to be aimed at Extreme sports fans, and at a cursory glance, programming appears similar to CanWest globals “Extreme” Channel. Equator HD is a nature channel that will show documentaries and short subjects about remote places and exotic animals. Both RushHD, and EquatorHD are channels that are run by VOOM, who has the worlds largest suite of High Definition channels. This brings ExpressVu upto 3 VOOM channels, since we already have Treasure HD. I’m hoping that this is a sign that we may get the whole suite of VOOM channels on ExpressVU.

All three new HD channels are available to all subscribers with a HD reciever until November 30th. No word yet on how they will be made available to HD subs after November 30th, Movie Central HD 2 is available to subscribers of HD and Movie Central.

(copied from another thread, sorry for the cross-posts)

    Hi Apeman,

Have the issues with the Expressvu 9200/9220 PVR been resolved? They are currently offering a 50% programming credit off of the $599 sales price (a pretty good deal, I think).

I would like to know if there is any way to transfer programming from the PVR hard drive to a DVD disc. I am an avid cook and would like to amass a library of my favourite cooking shows, without taking up space on the PVR hard drive.

I have a Vaio laptop with a DVD burner in it. Other than that, I have not yet purchased a DVD recorder. I know that there is a USB port on the PVR, but I have read that it has been disabled. Some one in sales (at expressvu) told me that it is possible and that I need a special cable (RCA?).

Have you or anyone successfully copied data from the PVR to a DVD? Would I be better off with TiVO? Will it work with an expressvu signal? I would like to figure this out before I make the purchase.

    Thanks so much,
    Doris
